How Calamansi can help your skin?

Updated: Jun 22, 2019

There is no doubt that we are currently on a very fast-paced environment, and sadly, pollution and materials that are toxic in nature are increasing their presence as well. It does not only affect our health, but it does show on our skin too! These toxins are usually the ones responsible for breakouts, dryness, and rapid appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Thank goodness we have a natural and local ingredient to combat this.

Growing up as a proud Filipino, we always see that round little green citrus in our kitchen. Everyone knows calamondin or calamansi as a delicious addition to what our moms usually cook or just simply something that goes well with the sauces. Little did we know that it has more benefits other than making our meals more scrumptious.

Like all other citrus fruits, calamansi is rich in Vitamin C, a well-known anti-oxidant and a natural bleaching agent. It also helps in regulating collagen and production of new skin cells, aids in digestion, boosts your immune system function, and can definitely make your skin clear from breakouts and blemishes. All of these benefits sounds too good to be true right? But it is true!

If you are suffering from pimples, dark spots, acne scars, and oily skin, here are some hacks for you:

  1. Dip a cotton swab on calamansi juice and put it directly on your pimple or affected areas of the skin. Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you may leave it on overnight or wash it off after 30 minutes.

  2. You may also dilute the calamansi juice in water. Our suggested ratio is 1 is to 4. One part of calamansi juice into 4 parts of water. Note that you may adjust this according to your skin type (feel free to reduce or add water). Put it in a cotton pad and on your face as how you would use a toner. You may also add other ingredients such as witch hazel or essential oils. Be as creative as you want!

  3. Get another staple kitchen ingredient – egg! Yup! Separate the egg whites and add about 2 teaspoons of calamansi juice on it (again, you can adjust this!). Mix them together and voila! Instant mask for oily and blemished skin. Tip: you may use a facial steam or a warm towel first to open up your pores, it will make your skin absorb the mask better.

We’ve got more DIY recipes using calamansi as your active ingredient, but we probably need months to write it all up! Don’t fret though, we got you covered. Soul has partnered with a local laboratory along with chemists and dermatologists to create a range of skin care products using calamansi - because sometimes what you need is just within your reach, or probably in your kitchen, or in your garden!
